Monica With The Hightower Team Gives Back!

Last Saturday was my first shift as a health care volunteer with the Denver Dumb Friends League and I completely fell in love with it. As a health care volunteer I administer medications to the animals in the facility and of course give them some love in the process. Most of this 3 hour shift was spent with the cats and kittens on what happened to be the shelter’s most cat-focused day of the year, CatFest. It was amazing to see the crowds of people happily looking at the hundreds of cats and anxiously awaiting their opportunity to meet one of the cats in person. I felt very fortunate to be able to enter the cat colonies (rooms with several cats housed together) and cages to pet the kitties while the public had to wait for their supervised meeting with an individual cat. The highlight of my day was spending time in the kitten room, which held about 10 fuzzy felines contently playing together and sleeping. I was able to sit in the room with the kittens while people surrounded the 3 plexi-glass walls watching them adoringly.

Sixty-six cats and kittens found homes during CatFest. Though this is wonderful news, there are still hundreds of cats, dogs, and small animals at the Dumb Friends League that need homes. The quantity of animals at the shelter increases during the summer months, so if you are thinking of adopting a new member of your family, please stop by the shelter today. Visit the Dumb Friends League for more information on adopting a pet.
